I have a child who has some struggles and being organized is one of them. Let's just say that every other month, we usually have to gut her room and I always carry out at least 1 large black trash sack. Funny too, b/c two of my three children struggle with staying organized. What a house to live in huh?
So in doing some research on how to help my own daughter, I found this site and was very intrigued. Most of the ideas is what we have talked about here but applied to children. I hope you find some enlightenment with it as I did.

The quick run down for you goes like this:
1- Set times for homework.
2- Help them to get into the habit of writing lists.
3- Plan the next day and discuss it with your child before they go to bed.
4- Set a position in their room for homework. ****
5- Leave notes for your child if he or she is old enough to read.
6- Help your child catalog work, magazines etc by providing box files, ring binders or folders.
7- Provide plenty of storage
8- Keep the mess (in their rooms) at least manageable, every week have a mining session.
9- Try to keep mealtimes to round about the same times every day.
10- Always use a calendar
11- Provide support and encouragement in your child's efforts to become more organized
12- Encourage good habits by letting your children help you with your own chores and always reward for a job well done.
**** Each family dynamic is going to be different but I personally disagree with having bedrooms set up for Homework space. So if you are in agreement, you can still dictate an area in your home for home work. In our home, with the exception of the one night that we have all of our activities, we have a schedule for Homework to be done from a certain time to a certain time, and the designated area is the Kitchen Table.
You can also set up a different spot for each child. On some HW days, I have one child at the table, another in the front room at the coffee table, etc.
Hope your holidays were great and Have a safe and wonderful New Year!
